ECOAMARE at the North Sea Days
ECOAMARE was proud to host the session “Beyond Box-Ticking: Rethinking Ecological Knowledge and Assessments in Offshore Wind Planning” at this year’s Noordzeedagen.
Anne Lansink and Alessio Devis (Utrecht University) opened the session with insights on implementing the European Renewable Energy Directive IIII in Dutch law. Guided by Charlotte Scholten, participants explored how ecological research connects with policymaking and identified opportunities to improve environmental impact assessments for offshore wind projects. The lively discussions made this session a highlight, fostering collaboration between science, policy, and practice in the energy transition.
Additionally, Christian Zuidema, ECOAMARE’s project lead, delivered a keynote on spatial use at sea and the importance of strategic planning amid uncertainty, sparking thoughtful debate among attendees.
